INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORTING ARCHITECTURE

INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORTING ARCHITECTURE

Consider architecture components. For example, let us take the technical architecture of data staging component. The part of the technical architecture for… data warehouse does a number of things. First of all, it indicates that there is a section of' the architecture called data staging. Then it notes that this section of the architecture contains an area where data is staged before it is loaded into the data warehouse repository. Next, it denotes that tins section of the architecture: performs certain functions and provides specific service in the data warehouse. Among others, the functions and services include data transformation and data cleansing.

Let us now ask a few questions. Where exactly is the data staging area? What are the specific files and databases? I low do the functions gel performed? What enables the services to be provides? What is the underlying base? What is the foundational structure? Infrastructure is the foundation supporting the architecture. Figure 8 -1 expresses this fact in  a simple manner.

What arc the various elements needed to support the architecture'? The foundational infrastructure includes many elements. First, it consists of the basic Computing platform. The platform includes in the required hardware and the operating system. Next, the database management system (MDBS) is an important element of the Infrastructure. All other types of software and tools are also part of the infrastructure. What about the people and the procedures that make the architecture come alive? Are these also part of the infrastructure? In a sense, they are.

Data warehouse infrastructure includes all the foundational demerits that enable then architecture to be implemented. In summary, the infrastructure includes several dements such as server hardware, operating system, network software, database software, the LAN and WAN, vendor tools for every architectural component, people, procedures and training.

The elements of the data warehouse infrastructure may be classified into two categories: operational infrastructure and physical infrastructure. This distinction is important because elements in each category are different in their nature and features compared those in the other category. First, we will go over the elements that may be grouped as operational infrastructure. The physical infrastructure is much wider and move foundational

Figure 8-1: Infrastructure supporting architecture

After gaining a basic understanding of the elements of the physical architecture, we will spend a large portion of this chapter examining specific elements in greater detail.

Infrastructure As The Foundation for Data Warehousing

CHAPTER 8  Infrastructure As The Foundation for Data Warehousing
CHAPTER OBJECTIVES
  • Understand the distinction between architecture and infrastructure
  • Find out how data warehouse infrastructure supports it architecture
  • Gain an insight into the components of the physical infrastructure
  • Review hardware and operating systems for the data warehouse
  • Study parallel processing options as applicable to the data warehouse
  • Discuss the server options in detail
  • Learn how to select the DBMS
  • Review the types of tools needed for the data warehouse
What is data warehouse infrastructure in relation to its architecture? What is the distinction between architecture and infrastructure In what ways are they different? Why do we have to study the two separately'?

In the previous chapter, we discussed data warehouse architecture in detail. We looked at the various architectural components and studied them by grouping them into the three major areas of the data warehouse, namely, data acquisition, data storage, and information delivery. You learned the elements that composed the technical architecture of each architectural component.

In this chapter, let us find out what infrastructure means and what it includes. We will discuss each part of the data warehouse infrastructure. You will understand the significance of infrastructure and master the techniques for creating the proper infrastructure for your data warehouse.

350-001 Question 9

350-001 Question 9
On your Terminal Server you are seeing spurious signals on line 6 of an asynchronous port due to contention issues. What command will fix this issue?

350-001

A. flowcontrol hardware
B. transport input none
C. no exec
D. exec-timeout 0 0

Answer: C

Explanation:
The "no exec" command is an optional command for reverse telnet configurations. Adding this line lessons the likelihood of contention over the asynchronous port. An executive process exists on all lines and buffer data to each other. At times, it can make it difficult to use a reverse telnet session. The command "no exec" will fix this.

350-001 Question 8

350-001 Question 8

Which of the following statement is true regarding clocking for a Cisco T1 interface?

A. The clock source command selects a source for the interface to clock received data.By default, it is clock source loop-timed (specifies that the T1/E1 interface takes the clock from the Tx (line) and uses it for Rx).
B. Routers are DTEs and NEVER supply clocking to T1/E1 line.
C. The clock source command specifies the location of the NTP server for timing.
D. The clock source selects a source for the interface to clock outgoing data.
The default is clock source line -Specifies that the T1/E1 link uses the recovered clock from the line.
E. The clock source identifies the stratum level associated with the router T1/E1. The default is Stratum1.

Answer: D

Explanation:
Clocking can either be internal, looped, or line. The default is line, meaning that the router is receiving clocking from the carrier network line.

Incorrect Answer:
C, E. These answers relate to NTP services, which are used for providing time stamping information to the router and does not relate to clocking. Stratum levels provide a hierarchy to the NTP source, with the highest level as 1.

350-001 Question 3

350-001 Question 2

From the "show version" command you see that that the system file image is c2500- jsl_121-7.bin. What IOS feature set is loaded on this router?

A. Enterprise
B. IP
C. IP/IPX/AT/DEC
D. Enterprise Plus
E. IP Plus IPSec 3DES

Answer: D

Explanation:

The system image file name in the exhibit is c2500-js-l_121-12.bin The table below shows the possible options IOS feature file name IP Plus c2500-is-l.121-7.bin IP c2500-i-l.121-7.bin Enterprise Plus IPSEC 56 c2500- jk8s -l.121-7.bin Enterprise Plus c2500-js-l.121-7.bin Enterprise c2500-j-l.121-7.bin
